The 2026 Journal Star all-area girls soccer team spotlights the elite talent that emerged from the Peoria region this spring, honoring those who turned the season into a showcase of skill and determination. Ava LaFollette was named the 2026 Journal Star Girls Soccer Player of the Year after a record-breaking campaign in which she netted 57 goals and added seven assists, propelling Peoria Notre Dame to a dominant season.
Defensive Mastery and Freshman Breakouts
LaFollette’s 57 goals placed her among the most prolific scorers in a single season, and her contribution helped the team outscore opponents 147-7, a margin that underscored the squad’s offensive firepower. The recognition marks the fourth time a Peoria Notre Dame player has repeated as Player of the Year, a testament to the program’s sustained excellence.
Defensive standouts also earned praise. Siena Stone anchored the back line for Peoria Notre Dame, conceding only seven goals all season, while Rylie Bare posted 22 shutouts, tying for seventh in a single IHSA season. Tori Aberle’s leadership at Washington helped the team reach the Class 2A regional final, and Abby Brooks was a key piece of Morton’s 19-game unbeaten streak.
Midfield and forward contributions spanned multiple schools. Claire Ceresa recorded 37 goals and 25 assists for Morton, Madi Greiner added 25 goals and 14 assists, and Violet Hynek contributed 34 goals and 16 assists for Peoria Christian. Freshman phenoms Peyton Lefler and Adalynn Lovell each broke out with 25 and 39 goals respectively, highlighting the depth of talent across the area.
Perhaps the most dramatic moment came when Mia Williams struck a 30-yard double-overtime winner to secure a Class 2A regional title for Dunlap, capping a season filled with clutch performances. The collective achievements of these players reflect a vibrant soccer culture that continues to grow throughout central Illinois.
