The University of Iowa Athletics Department has secured the official court that was used in the NCAA Houston Regional Elite Eight, marking a significant upgrade for the Hawkeyes' home venue.
The new surface, produced by Connor Sports, features a sleek single-surface design that replaces the parquet pattern that has been in place since the arena opened in 1983.
Officially christened Mediacom Court, the replacement will sit alongside the existing floor, which the department intends to preserve as a piece of institutional history.
Installation schedule
Work is slated to begin on May 18, when the finished panels arrive, followed by sanding, painting preparation and layout through May 25.
Painting, sealing and drying will continue through June 6, after which the court will be ready for competition.
In addition to the new playing surface, the department plans to create commemorative memorabilia for fans, ensuring that the legacy of the former court lives on.
