Marcus Jackson, a senior at West Orange High School in New Jersey, has been crowned the 2025‑26 Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year, marking the sixth time a New Jersey athlete has received this national honor.
The accolade highlighted not only his technical brilliance on the field but also his commitment to academics and community service. Jackson carries a 3.55 GPA and volunteers regularly at Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church and the Holy Trinity Food Shelter, embodying the program’s emphasis on leadership beyond the game.
Coach Doug Nevins, who previously mentored two Gatorade honorees, praised Jackson’s work ethic, describing the midfielder as “a player who leads by example every day.”
The Announcement
The announcement came as a surprise during a school assembly, where Jackson was presented with the award and later joined a video call with former U.S. Men’s National Team goalkeeper Tim Howard, who offered congratulations and shared insights from his own international career.
Jackson confirmed he will continue his academic and athletic journey at UCLA this fall, joining a program known for developing world‑class talent.
Beyond the Field
The Gatorade Player of the Year initiative has distributed more than $6.4 million in grants to over 2,200 organizations across the United States, underscoring its role in supporting youth sports and community projects.
At UCLA, Jackson will work alongside resources from United Soccer Coaches, DNS Soccer, and the university’s athletic network as he prepares for the next chapter of his career.
