Witten’s Film Study Fuels Cowboys’ Preparations and Future Coaching Legacy

Princeton Fant draws inspiration from the former Cowboy as Witten pivots to coaching at Oklahoma

During the Dallas Cowboys' offseason training camp, the team has made a point of studying game film of Jason Witten, the franchise's all‑time leader in receptions and touchdowns among tight ends. The move is part of a broader effort to blend the club's rich history with its present ambitions.

Princeton Fant, a current Cowboys tight end who also excelled at the University of Tennessee, says the daily film sessions have become a source of personal motivation. In his sophomore season at Tennessee he caught 22 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns, and he also added five rushing scores on six carries, including a 66‑yard pass play. "Seeing how Witten executed his routes and handled the ball gives me ideas I can apply on the field," Fant explained.

From Player to Coach

Witten's transition from the NFL to college coaching has been marked by a rapid rise at Oklahoma, where he now oversees the tight ends unit. In addition to his on‑field duties, he recently secured a verbal commitment from his son, Cooper, and from Jack Van Dorselaer, a former Tennessee tight end who brings a similar skill set. The commitments underscore Witten's growing influence beyond the professional game.

The schedule will see Oklahoma host Tennessee in the 2027 season and travel to Knoxville for a 2029 showdown, a pair of games that will inevitably bring Witten's past and present together. For Fant, the prospect of facing a team coached by his mentor adds a narrative twist to an already compelling storyline.
