The University of Tennessee announced this week that Denise Jilka will step into the role of executive director of basketball operations for the Lady Vols, a move that underscores the program’s confidence in continuity and institutional knowledge.
A familiar face leads the next era
Jilka, who has spent the last twelve years working within the Volunteer State’s athletic department, will now oversee program logistics, academic support, daily scheduling and travel coordination for the women’s basketball team.
Head coach Kim Caldwell praised the appointment, highlighting Jilka’s deep familiarity with the program and her relentless work ethic. “Denise knows every corner of our operation,” Caldwell said. “Her commitment to the student‑athlete experience will be a major factor as we aim to build on the momentum we’ve created.”
Beyond her administrative career, Jilka’s athletic background includes a stint as a softball player at Bradley University, where she honed skills in teamwork and strategy that she now brings to her new position.
Looking ahead
The transition is expected to be seamless, given Jilka’s long‑standing relationship with the team and the university. Athletic director Steve McClain noted that her intimate understanding of the program’s culture will help maintain the Lady Vols’ competitive edge while streamlining operations.
