Former Brazil star Ronaldinho Gaúcho, now 46, has turned his attention from the pitch to the boardroom, announcing a strategic investment in Ravenna, an Italian Serie C club. The move marks a significant shift for the veteran, who will not be lacing up his boots again but will instead lend his global brand to a series of marketing projects.
A partnership that spans continents
Ravenna’s sporting director, Ariedo Braida, confirmed the collaboration, noting that the deal reunites him with the player he first brought to Europe in 2008 when Braida signed Ronaldinho for AC Milan. The reunion adds a nostalgic flavor to the club’s ambitions as they aim to climb back to Serie B.
While the investment is primarily financial, Ronaldinho will also be involved in promotional activities. Club officials say he is expected to feature in a celebratory match that will showcase the new kits the team will wear next season. The launch event is being positioned as a major draw for fans both locally and internationally.
Looking back at Milan
Ronaldinho’s stint with AC Milan from July 2008 to January 2011 was marked by 95 appearances, 26 goals and 27 assists, culminating in a Serie A title in the 2010/2011 season. His time in Milan not only cemented his legacy in Europe but also forged a lasting relationship with Braida, who remains an honorary vice‑president of Ravenna.
The new arrangement allows Braida to leverage his connections and Ronaldinho’s enduring appeal to promote the club’s brand. Together they plan to organize fan events, charity clinics and community outreach programs that could deepen the club’s ties with the local population.
Industry observers note that such collaborations are becoming increasingly common, as clubs seek to capitalize on the marketing power of retired legends. For Ravenna, the partnership could open doors to new revenue streams and a broader international fan base.
