Core Roster Solidifies Ahead of PWHL Expansion
The Toronto Sceptres announced a series of contract extensions that lock in three of their most influential players ahead of the upcoming season, underscoring the club’s intent to build on recent momentum.
Defender Allie Munroe, a cornerstone of the franchise since the league’s inaugural draft, agreed to a two‑year deal that runs through the 2027‑28 campaign. Munroe has worn an ‘A’ for the Sceptres since spring 2025, reflecting her leadership on and off the ice, and she contributed two assists in 19 games during the 2025‑26 season. The blueliner was also named the Sceptres’ Intact Impact Award winner for 2024‑25 and assisted on the first-ever PWHL playoff goal.
Forwards Lauren Messier and Emma Woods each signed one‑year agreements that will keep them in the Sceptres’ lineup through the 2026‑27 season. Messier, a rookie last year, broke onto the scoresheet with her first PWHL goal and previously captained Dartmouth College for three of her four seasons. Woods, a consistent offensive presence, recorded two points in 30 games and earned the 2026 Intact Impact Award, having previously captured the Isobel Cup in the PHF.
Both players bring a blend of collegiate experience and professional pedigree. Messier graduated from Syracuse University, while Woods boasts stints in the SDHL and CWHL before joining the PWHL. Their contracts were finalized during Phase 5 of the PWHL’s Expansion Player Distribution Process.
The signings bring the total number of contracted players to 11, a figure that reflects the team’s focus on continuity as the league expands its footprint. The Sceptres’ roster now features a mix of home‑grown talent, university alumni and internationally experienced athletes.
Team officials praised the extensions as a testament to the organization’s commitment to stability and competitiveness. “Retaining players like Allie, Lauren and Emma is essential as we look toward the future,” a senior manager said in the announcement.
