Rocco Becht, the starting quarterback for Penn State, has been making headlines not only for his play on the field but also for the way he is using his growing platform to give back to the community.
Earlier this month, he teamed up with Academy Sports & Outdoors to distribute $200 gift cards to children enrolled in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Blair County, a gesture that combined his love of the outdoors with a direct impact on local families.
Beyond that partnership, Becht has funneled a portion of his name, image and likeness earnings into a football camp for youngsters in Perry, Iowa, and contributed $7,500 to the town’s youth football program, a move that underscores his commitment to grassroots development.
He also arranged for Xbox gaming consoles to be placed in every pediatric room of a medical center in Ames, Iowa, offering a small distraction for children undergoing treatment.
A family legacy of giving
His father, Anthony Becht, enjoyed an 11‑year career as an NFL tight end and now serves as head coach of the Orlando Storm in the United Football League; the elder Becht’s long‑standing involvement in charitable causes has been a guiding influence for Rocco.
After battling two shoulder injuries throughout the previous season, the quarterback is now fully cleared for all activities, a milestone that has only deepened his resolve to lead by example.
At the heart of his approach is a close working relationship with head coach Matt Campbell, a bond built on trust and mutual respect that Becht says is essential for both personal growth and team success.
Looking ahead, Becht hopes his off‑field initiatives will inspire other college athletes to consider how their earnings can be redirected toward meaningful causes, reinforcing the idea that leadership extends beyond the stadium.
