Lenovo Center to Close for $70 Million Renovation Ahead of 2028 NCAA Tournament

Eight‑week shutdown will reshape the arena, add seating and upgrade media facilities as part of a broader $1 billion redevelopment.

Renovation Underway at Lenovo Center

The arena will be closed for eight weeks beginning next week as part of a major renovation project that carries a price tag of more than $70 million. The work is being funded in part by a $66 million approval from the Centennial Authority, which adds to a previous $4.1 million allocation for new seats.

Planned upgrades include re‑configuring aisles in the lower bowl, adding modest seating increases on the 300‑level, and installing additional center‑court options. An upgraded media workroom and a redesigned press area will also be introduced, even though the existing press space upstairs will be reduced.

These improvements are timed to support high‑profile events, notably the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games of the 2028 NCAA Tournament, ensuring the venue meets the demands of national audiences.

The renovation is just one piece of a $1 billion mixed‑use development that will eventually feature an expanded plaza, a 600‑foot promenade and a 4,300‑seat music venue. Work on the broader project is slated to commence after the 2026 NC State football season concludes.
