The Washington Huskies have confirmed the addition of DeAndre Haynes to their coaching roster for the 2026-27 campaign, a move aimed at bolstering the program's competitiveness within the Big Ten Conference.
A career built on winning and development
Haynes arrives after a five‑year stint as an assistant at Marquette under head coach Shaka Smart, where he helped the Golden Eagles secure a share of the Big Ten regular‑season title in 2020. Prior to that, he contributed to Michigan’s staff that captured the 2018 Big Ten tournament championship and advanced to the Sweet 16 under John Beilein.
Before his collegiate coaching roles, Haynes honed his skills overseas, playing professionally in Belgium, Finland, Germany and Hungary for five years. He then returned to the United States, where he served as an assistant at Maryland, contributing to the Terrapins' 2020 Big Ten regular‑season title under Mark Turgeon.
A Kent State graduate, Haynes was a standout point guard for the Golden Flashes, leading the team in assists, steals and minutes during his collegiate career. His experience spans both the rigors of high‑level play and the strategic nuances of modern basketball, positioning him to guide Washington’s emerging roster, which may feature several international players.
