A New Chapter for the Gators
The University of Florida's baseball program is entering a pivotal offseason, with a wave of departures and strategic additions that could define its 2026 campaign. The loss of starting catcher Karson Bowen and outfielder Kyle Jones to graduation and the 2026 MLB Draft leaves a noticeable gap in both defense and production.
Among the newcomers, Oregon State right‑hander Zach Edwards brings a 5.61 ERA from the previous season, while fellow pitcher Trey Morris, also from Oregon State, arrives with a sparkling 1.98 ERA and Freshman All‑American honors to his name. Their arrivals signal a focus on bolstering the rotation.
The Gators also secured infielder John Martinez from Florida Atlantic University, a redshirt sophomore who batted .297 last year, and Utah Tech second baseman Kyle McDaniel, who posted a .340 average in 2026. Catcher Jon Embury, transferred from Florida Gulf Coast University, arrives as the team’s leading hitter in hits, RBIs and homers.
What the Roster Changes Mean
Coach Kevin O’Sullivan and director of player development Rich Dorman have emphasized competition and depth as the team navigates the transfer portal. With a blend of proven talent and fresh arms, the Gators aim to remain competitive in the SEC and preserve their tradition of strong baseball.
