Jayla Blue, a senior forward from Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, has been crowned the 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year, a distinction that underscores a season that blended athletic dominance with academic excellence.
She steered the Lady Bulldogs to their fourth TSSAA Class AAA championship in just five years, finishing the campaign with a 20‑2‑1 record and a staggering 33 goals paired with 17 assists. The performance added to her standing as the school’s all‑time leading scorer, a title she holds with 135 career goals, and she also set a single‑season record of 45 goals.
A Legacy in the Making
Beyond the pitch, Blue maintained a 3.44 grade point average, a testament to her discipline in the classroom and on the field. She is the daughter of former Tennessee basketball player Ace Clement Blue, and she shares the spotlight with her younger sister Nyla Blue, a junior defender who continues the family’s athletic pedigree.
Blue’s achievements have not gone unnoticed beyond state lines; she was also selected as the 2025 United Soccer Coaches Tennessee Player of the Year, an honor that reflects both individual skill and team impact. Her commitment to the University of Tennessee’s Lady Vols marks the next chapter of a career that already boasts multiple All‑State selections and a place among the nation’s elite high school forwards.
