Worcester Railers Ink Multi‑Year Affiliation with St. Louis Blues and Springfield Thunderbirds

Eight‑year Islanders partnership ends as club aligns with NHL’s Blues and AHL’s Thunderbirds through 2030‑31

Worcester Railers Secure New Development Partnership

The Worcester Railers Hockey Club announced a multi‑year affiliation that will see the team linked to both the St. Louis Blues of the NHL and the Springfield Thunderbirds of the AHL through the 2030‑31 season.

The agreement replaces the eight‑year partnership the Railers had with the New York Islanders, marking the first change in affiliation since the club entered the ECHL in 2017.

Club executives said the new arrangement is intended to give prospects a clearer pathway to the professional ranks, leveraging the Blues’ established development system and the Thunderbirds’ recent on‑ice success.

General manager Michael G. Myers highlighted the strategic value of the proximity between Worcester and Springfield, noting that the short travel distance will facilitate more frequent call‑ups and streamlined scouting.

The affiliation also revives a historical connection for the Blues, who previously operated out of Worcester as the IceCats from 1994 to 2005, a relationship that fans in Central Massachusetts still remember.

Colten Ellis, who made his NHL debut after a standout season with the Railers in 2021‑22, is among the alumni who have benefitted from the club’s developmental environment, underscoring the potential talent pipeline.

Owner Tim Taylor said the partnership reflects a commitment to growing the sport locally while competing at the highest developmental standards, and expressed optimism about the future of hockey in the region.

The deal is expected to maximize competitive opportunities and efficiencies for player development and scouting, ensuring that prospects receive the most effective training and game experience possible.
