Former professional guard Trevor Lacey opened the doors of his first basketball camp in North Alabama this weekend, inviting boys and girls between the ages of eight and seventeen to learn the game’s fundamentals.
The two‑day event, held at a local community center, combined skill drills with small‑sided games, giving participants a chance to practice shooting, passing and defensive stance under Lacey’s guidance.

During the camp, former Butler head coach Jack Doss watched more than a dozen of his former players take the floor again, a sight that underscored the lasting impact of Lacey’s former teammates now serving as volunteer coaches.
Lacey said the experience reinforced his belief that community support can transform a simple basketball session into a catalyst for personal growth, and he plans to repeat the camp annually.
Organizers highlighted the partnership with local schools and the University of Alabama, which provided facilities and promotional support, illustrating how collaborations between educational institutions and former athletes can enrich youth sports programs.
