The University of South Carolina has released the complete roster for the 2026‑27 men’s basketball season, a mix of seasoned veterans and three highly anticipated newcomers. The announcement comes as head coach Lamont Paris enters a make-or-break year after two consecutive subpar campaigns.
The Coach’s Make-or-Break Year
Paris, now in his fifth season with the Gamecocks, has seen his job security scrutinized after the team slipped below expectations in the past two years. The new roster is viewed as a critical opportunity for him to reshape the program and push for a return to the NCAA Tournament.
Among the fresh faces is Mathias Alessandro, a 6‑foot‑8 forward who arrives from Overtime Elite in Atlanta. Alessandro will redshirt this season after tearing his ACL in May, but his international pedigree is already established — he earned his first senior cap for Brazil at just 16 years old. Last season he posted 8.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and a block per game.
Also joining the squad is Nasir Hines, a 6‑foot‑10 forward from Palm Beach State College. Hines contributed modestly last year with 2.1 points and 1.2 rebounds per game, but coaches believe his size and defensive instincts can add depth in the paint.
The third addition, Ford Wilder, is a 6‑foot‑4 multi‑sport athlete from Wilson Hall. In his senior year he averaged 23.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.8 steals, 1.5 assists and a block, showcasing a blend of scoring and defensive versatility that could prove vital for the Gamecocks' offensive schemes.
Looking Ahead
With a blend of youthful talent and experienced leadership, South Carolina hopes the new roster will translate into improved performance on the court. The ultimate goal is clear: re‑establish a competitive edge that can secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament and restore the program’s former glory.
