A New Chapter for the Gamecocks
Brooks Dow, a senior quarterback from Pickens, South Carolina, has accepted a preferred walk‑on offer from the University of South Carolina, opting to join the Gamecocks over several other suitors.
Raised in the shadow of Clemson’s football legacy, Dow said the decision was shaped by the impression made by head coach Shane Beamer and the personal guidance he received from former Myrtle Beach quarterback Luke Doty during a June camp.
The commitment also signals a positional change; Dow will transition to tight end, a move he plans to refine under the direction of coach Shawn Elliott and the mentorship of Luke Doty.
From Quarterback to Tight End
Dow’s high school career featured a dual‑threat performance, throwing for 1,550 yards and 17 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,083 yards and adding a 75‑yard reception, statistics that attracted interest from Appalachian State University and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Beyond the gridiron, he is a multi‑sport athlete who plays basketball for Pickens High and has been guided by former Benedict College quarterback Ramon Robinson, adding a unique perspective to his preparation for college competition.
Mentorship and Multi‑Sport Roots
The blend of football, basketball, and mentorship reflects a holistic approach to development, positioning Dow as a versatile addition to the Gamecocks roster.
