The Viking baseball program continues to collect accolades as two of its standout seniors have been selected to the NCBWA All‑Central Region First Team. Their achievements come just days before the team opens NCAA tournament play on Friday night against Pittsburg State in Kansas, a contest that promises to test the depth of their recent momentum.
Regional Honors
Troy Berg, a senior from Dickinson, North Dakota, brings a .316 batting average to the lineup, complemented by 17 doubles, 10 home runs and 24 stolen bases. His blend of contact hitting and aggressive baserunning has made him a cornerstone of the Vikings' offense this season.
Mariano Gomez, also a senior and hailing from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, has dominated conference play with a 2.40 ERA, a perfect 7‑0 record and 65 strikeouts. He capped the stretch with a no‑hitter on April 9 against Winona State, underscoring his command on the mound and his ability to shut down opposing hitters.
Both players will look to carry that momentum into the upcoming matchup, a Friday night contest against Pittsburg State in Kansas, as the Vikings aim to extend their season and make a deeper run in the NCAA tournament.
