Texas basketball has secured a commitment from Lithuanian guard Mantas Laurencikas, who will join the Longhorns for the 2026‑27 season. The signing marks a significant piece of a wide‑ranging roster overhaul orchestrated by head coach Sean Miller, whose first year in Austin concluded with a Sweet 16 run in the NCAA Tournament.
Laurencikas arrives after a standout campaign with AS Monaco Basket in France’s Betclic Elite, where he averaged 13.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 45.4% from the floor and 77.5% from the free‑throw line.
The Lithuanian guard brings four years of eligibility, allowing him to contribute immediately while still retaining long‑term development potential. His arrival is part of a strategy that aims to blend experienced transfers with emerging talent as the program pushes toward the scholarship cap of 15 players.
A Strategic Addition
Miller’s staff identified Laurencikas as a versatile guard capable of stretching defenses and facilitating play, qualities that align with the coach’s up‑tempo philosophy. The player’s background in European competition also introduces a global perspective to a roster that has increasingly looked abroad for talent.
Beyond club success, Laurencikas has represented Lithuania in FIBA events for the past four summers and has previously shared the court with Texas big man Matas Vokietaitis in the national team system, a connection that could accelerate on‑court chemistry.
The new class includes other high‑profile transfers such as Mikey Lewis, Elyjah Freeman, Amari Evans, David Punch, Isaiah Johnson, Austin Goosby, Bo Ogden, Joe Sterling and Chris Ogden, all of whom are expected to shape the team’s depth chart and competitive outlook.
With the roster now positioned near the scholarship limit, Texas aims to blend veteran presence with fresh energy, positioning itself to compete at the highest level of collegiate basketball in the coming seasons.
