The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Juniors rolled past the Marshall Owls 11-2 on Tuesday at Liberty Park, a performance that underscored their offensive firepower and pitching reliability.
From the outset the Juniors struck first, plating two runs in the opening frame before adding three more in the third, four in the fourth, and two each in the fifth and sixth innings, a rhythm that kept the scoreboard ticking in their favor.
A dominant offensive display
Tucker Jones ignited the attack with a double to right that drove in the first two runs, and Parker Loethen followed with a single that brought Jones home. Keyton Doerhoff then lined a two‑run single to center, extending the lead to 5‑0, while London Talken’s triple later in the game plated Braxton Bailey and, after an error, himself, pushing the margin to 7‑1.
Malachi Cracraft contributed a sacrifice fly in the fifth to make it 8‑1, and Braxton Bailey capped the scoring with a bloop single that drove in Preston Reinkemeyer. Doerhoff added two more RBI with a sixth‑inning single, bringing his total to four.
On the mound, London Talken delivered a complete game, striking out six batters while surrendering only two runs, a showing that helped preserve the lead after Marshall managed a solitary run in the bottom of the third.
Emmit Verts, the starter for Marshall, lasted three innings and gave up five runs on seven hits before the Juniors pulled away.
The victory left Post 5 tied for first in their group with Marshall and Elsberry Post 226 at a 2‑1 record, though they sit third in the standings due to a higher runs‑against total. They will now head to Sedalia Smith‑Cotton High School for a consolation game later today.
