A New Chapter for Litvinov
Jiri Slegr, a former Detroit Red Wings defenseman who helped the club capture the 2002 Stanley Cup, announced that he is stepping down as general manager of the Czech national team to become a co‑owner of his old club, HC Litvinov, which competes in the Czech Extraliga.
Slegr described the negotiations that led to the ownership transition as demanding, but he expressed confidence that the deal would bring stability and new energy to the organization.
Adding to the project, former Red Wings centre Robert Lang has agreed to serve as a consultant and silent partner, offering his experience and maintaining regular contact with Slegr as the team’s restructuring progresses.
Another former NHL forward, Martin Ručinský, has also voiced his willingness to contribute to the club’s development, underscoring a collective desire among alumni to support the team’s future.
The involvement of these former NHL players reflects a broader trend of alumni taking active roles in shaping the next generation of European hockey, a move that fans hope will revitalize the club’s competitiveness in the league.
