Hunter Watson, a two‑way standout from Tuttle, Oklahoma, was named The Oklahoman’s 2026 All‑State Baseball Player of the Year after steering his team to a Class 4A state championship. He finished the season with a 0.23 ERA on the mound and a .505 batting average at the plate, numbers that underscored his dominance in both roles.
A Season Forged in Adversity
Watson’s championship run was fueled by a bitter defeat the previous year, a loss that sharpened his resolve and turned setbacks into daily motivation. From middle school onward, coaches had noted his raw talent, but it was the fire forged in that earlier disappointment that propelled him to lead Tuttle through a demanding tournament schedule.
In the state tournament, Watson delivered a complete‑game shutout in the quarterfinal against Lone Grove and then homered in each of the three games, including the championship final. Despite an oblique injury that threatened to sideline him, he played through the pain, showcasing the grit that teammates and coaches repeatedly praised.
The team’s success was not a solo effort; teammates such as Hudson Morgan, Breck Draper, Hudson Heathco and Nick Sardis contributed key performances and provided the camaraderie that kept Watson grounded. Their collective spirit, combined with Watson’s leadership and easygoing nature, created a locker‑room environment where hard work felt rewarding.
Beyond high school, Watson has committed to the University of Oklahoma, choosing the Sooners over other prominent programs like West Texas A&M, Oklahoma State University and Central Oklahoma. The decision reflects both his academic aspirations and his desire to continue developing under a coaching staff that shares his championship ambitions.
