The Shore Conference’s girls flag football league entered its sixth season with a record 30 teams, signaling a rapid expansion of the sport across New Jersey.
Barnegat’s Perfect Campaign
Among the newcomers, Barnegat burst onto the scene as a first‑year program that finished undefeated at 12‑0, capping the campaign with a Shore Conference Tournament championship.
The team’s success was built on a youthful core, with most starters being freshmen and sophomores who combined speed, precision and relentless defense.
Player and Coach Honors
Sophomore Camila Chamorro led the squad with a standout season, earning Player of the Year honors, while teammate Syrah Holmes was recognized as Offensive Player of the Year.
Senior Jayla Kline of Pinelands received Defensive Player of the Year, and Barnegat’s head coach Andrew Petruzzi was named Coach of the Year for his strategic guidance.
Barnegat’s offense was prolific, outscoring opponents 399‑85 and posting nine games with at least 32 points, a testament to the team’s balanced attack.
Looking Ahead
The sport will become an NJSIAA‑sanctioned competition next season, paving the way for a statewide tournament and further legitimizing girls flag football in the state.
With the prospect of a formal state tournament on the horizon, the league’s momentum suggests that participation will continue to rise, offering more young athletes a chance to showcase talent on a larger stage.
