Marquis Grissom, a standout alumnus of Florida A&M University, has been selected for the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s 2026 class, a testament to a career that spanned two decades of collegiate and professional excellence. Hall of Fame Class of 2026
Grissom’s collegiate prowess emerged during his two seasons with the Rattlers, where he topped NCAA Division I in runs scored and triples per game in 1988. His performance helped elevate Florida A&M within the Mid‑Eastern Athletic Conference and earned him a place in the Florida A&M, MEAC, and Georgia Sports Halls of Fame.
After being drafted by the Montreal Expos in the third round of the 1988 MLB Draft, Grissom embarked on a 17‑year major league journey that culminated in a World Series championship with the Atlanta Braves in 1995. The outfielder became a two‑time All‑Star in 1993 and 1994, led the National League in stolen bases in 1991 and 1992, and earned four consecutive Gold Gloves from 1993 to 1996. He also showcased his versatility with stints at the Cleveland Indians, Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants, was named LCS MVP in 1997, and later served as a coach for the Washington Nationals in 2009.
Today, Grissom channels his baseball acumen into ownership of the New Jack City Ballers, a franchise in the developmental Legacy League Baseball based in Jackson, Mississippi. The league, accessible via legacybaseball.com, provides a new platform for emerging talent, reflecting Grissom’s commitment to growing the sport at the grassroots level.
