A Ten-Year Tenure Comes to an End
Dave Callahan, who guided the Rumson-Fair Haven High School girls basketball team for a decade, has officially stepped down from his coaching position. In a heartfelt statement, he cited a desire to spend more time with his family as the primary reason for his departure, marking the close of a chapter that saw the program become a consistent contender on the state stage.
During his ten‑year run, Callahan led the Bulldogs to five sectional championship games and compiled a 177‑98 overall record. The most recent season was particularly memorable: the team finished 19‑11, captured the 41st annual Kevin Williams Christmas Classic Tournament title, and advanced to the Central Group 2 final, showcasing the program’s resilience and growth.
Callahan’s future plans keep him closely tied to the sport. He intends to continue running the summer league at The Fort in Oceanport and to become more involved with AAU programs, ensuring that his experience and passion for player development remain a resource for the broader basketball community.
Acknowledgments and Future Plans
Expressing gratitude, Callahan thanked the school administration, including former athletic director Chris Lanzalotto and Beth English, for their unwavering support throughout his tenure. He highlighted the collaborative environment at Rumson-Fair Haven High School as a key factor in the program’s sustained success.
While he will miss the camaraderie of players and the intensity of big‑game moments, Callahan remains optimistic about the team’s prospects. He believes the Bulldogs will enjoy a strong upcoming season and mount a serious challenge for Group 2 honors, reflecting his confidence in the program’s foundation and future talent.
