A Legacy of Scholarship
The recent graduation ceremony at Louisiana State University marked a milestone as six members of the 2026 baseball roster and one former Tiger received their diplomas, a reminder of the program’s dual commitment to competition and education.
Over the past nineteen years, 137 LSU baseball players have completed their degrees, while the team has been recognized on the SEC Academic Honor Roll 191 times since 2007, illustrating a culture that values scholarly achievement as much as athletic prowess.
Among the graduates, Zac Cowan earned an interdisciplinary studies degree and was celebrated as a First‑Team All‑SEC selection, having contributed to the 2025 College World Series championship with a 3‑3 record, six saves and a 2.94 ERA.
Seth Dardar completed a construction‑management certificate online and earned SEC Co‑Player of the Week honors, while Grant Fontenot received a sport‑administration degree and remains one of the team’s most reliable relievers.
DJ Primeaux, a construction‑management graduate, has logged 35 career relief appearances, and Tanner Reaves finished a sport‑administration degree after playing in 43 games during the 2025 National Champions run.
Chris Stanfield, who earned an interdisciplinary studies degree, was awarded the Tony Gwynn Community Service Trophy and helped the Tigers to a .298 team batting average and 31 RBI en route to the 2025 National Championship.
Finally, former outfielder Greg Deichmann, who completed a marketing degree through LSU Online, was a key contributor to the 2017 College World Series title, batting .308 with 19 homers and 73 RBI.
Championship Legacy Meets Scholarship
The blend of academic rigor and championship performance reflects a broader trend at LSU, where student‑athletes are encouraged to pursue meaningful degrees while competing at the highest level, a balance that has produced both national titles and a strong academic reputation.
