Nolan Groves stepped onto the campus of the University of Minnesota in April 2024, bringing a 6‑foot‑5‑inch frame and a reputation for relentless energy to the Gophers' roster.
A New Chapter in Minneapolis
The 2024‑25 Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year capped a stellar prep career at Orono High School, where he led the team to the state tournament and earned Metro West Conference Player of the Year honors.
His lone season at Texas Tech saw him appear in 23 games, logging 5.8 minutes per contest and learning the value of work ethic and defensive intensity under a demanding coaching staff.
Groves describes himself as a versatile guard who can shift from lockdown defense to a scoring threat on offense, a trait he believes will add depth to Minnesota's lineup.
Community and Chemistry
Off the court, he has already begun giving back, volunteering with the Special Olympics and expressing a desire to continue that work in the Twin Cities.
The chemistry he sees among the returning players and the incoming freshmen, including Cedric Tomes, Nolen Anderson and Grayson Grove, excites him, as does the patience and support he feels from the coaching staff.
Fans can also look forward to seeing Groves share the court with NBA standout Anthony Edwards, a connection that adds extra buzz to the upcoming season.
