Iowa State expands alcohol sales at football and basketball games
Iowa State University announced that it will start selling alcoholic beverages at its football and basketball events, aiming to alleviate financial strain on the athletic department.
Athletic director Jamie Pollard revealed the plan on Monday, noting that many comparable schools have already adopted similar policies with positive results.
The initiative will cover beer, wine, and pre‑packaged cocktails at Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum, with sales slated to start this fall.
University officials say a portion of the new revenue will fund alcohol education, student wellness programs, and enhancements to public safety.
Pollard emphasized that the university is committed to maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all guests, citing rigorous training and monitoring protocols.
The move reflects a broader trend among collegiate programs seeking alternative income streams amid rising operational costs.
