Northeastern Alumni Shine in Inaugural PWHL Draft

Record draft sees four Huskies selected, underscoring regional roots and future prospects

The 2026 Professional Women’s Hockey League draft turned heads as a record 236 prospects stepped onto the virtual stage, each hoping to hear their name called by one of the twelve franchises.

Among them, four former Northeastern University standouts — Jules Constantinople, Lily Shannon, Jaden Bogden and Tory Mariano — found their names among the selections, marking a rare concentration of Huskies talent in the league’s first major talent pool.

Huskies on the rise

Constantinople, a native of East Haven, Connecticut, was the highest‑ranked Northeastern pick, sliding to the 25th overall spot and landing with the Vancouver Goldeneyes.

Shannon, who grew up in Andover, Massachusetts, waited until the fourth round before the San Jose franchise claimed her 40th overall.

Bogden, also an Andover native, earned a spot with the Boston Fleet, joining a growing contingent of Northeastern alumni in the professional ranks.

Mariano, a biology major from Hamilton, Ontario, celebrated a 47th‑overall selection by the Hamilton team, capping a five‑year academic journey before turning professional.

Northeastern head coach Dave Flint was on hand to support the prospects, even assisting the Las Vegas franchise at the draft table, underscoring the program’s expanding influence.

The draft also highlighted the program’s broader impact, with goaltender Aerin Frankel already having captured the league’s MVP award, and former captain Holly Abela remaining eligible for future contracts.

As the league prepares for its inaugural season, the influx of Northeastern talent signals a promising blend of academic discipline and elite competition.
