Mike Norman Jr. Returns to Lead Brockton High
After a whirlwind five‑year stretch that saw three different coaches guide the Brockton High School football program, the school announced that Mike Norman Jr., a 2019 graduate and former standout quarterback, will take over as head coach. The appointment follows the departure of Jailson Silva, who guided the team to two consecutive MIAA Division 1 state tournament appearances.
Norman Jr. spent the past seasons working as an assistant and head coach of the freshman squad, building relationships with players and staff. His deep roots in the community date back to his college days at Stonehill College, where he played defensive back from 2019 to 2023.
A strategic move amid transition
The school listed the position on SchoolSpring on April 28, a move tied to an agreement with the Brockton Education Association. Silva had confirmed in April that he was reapplying for the role, but the board ultimately chose Norman Jr., citing his familiarity with the program and his playing pedigree.
Athletic director Jordan Mayblum, who oversaw the hiring process, emphasized that the decision reflects a desire for continuity and a belief that Norman Jr. can sustain the momentum built over recent seasons.
The upcoming season will be a test of how quickly the new coach can translate his on‑field experience into wins. With the school’s facilities and supportive community, expectations are high that the team will remain competitive in the MIAA.
