Four-star safety Andre Jones, a standout prospect from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, announced his commitment to the University of Notre Dame for the 2028 recruiting cycle, adding his name to a growing list of elite defenders headed to South Bend.
Jones chose the Fighting Irish after a series of high-profile visits, including a trip last fall to watch Notre Dame take on Texas A&M, and a second visit in April that culminated in a scholarship offer from head coach Marcus Freeman. His performance at the Rivals Miami Elite Camp in February, where he ranked seventh overall, further cemented his status as the No. 28 safety nationally according to the 2028 Rivals Industry Ranking.
The commitment comes as part of a familial tradition at Notre Dame. Both Andre and his brother, wide receiver Julius Jones Jr., have pledged to the program, with Julius slated to join the 2027 class. Their father, former Notre Dame running back Julius Jones Sr., starred for the Irish in the early 2000s, amassing 3,018 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns, while their uncle, Thomas Jones, earned All-American honors at the University of Virginia before a successful NFL career.
A Family Legacy at Notre Dame
The Joneses join a lineage of athletes who have worn the Notre Dame jersey, a narrative that resonates deeply with the university’s recruiting narrative. Coach Freeman highlighted the versatility and advanced skill set that Andre brings, noting that his ability to play both safety and nickel cornerback could reshape the defensive scheme.
Ranked No. 274 overall in the 2028 class, Jones is expected to be a cornerstone of Notre Dame’s defensive recruiting haul, complementing other top targets and reinforcing the program’s upward trajectory under Freeman’s leadership.
