The 2026 News-Herald flag football All-Stars list celebrates the region’s most electrifying talent, honoring both players and the coaches who shaped their seasons. From record-breaking passing yards to lockdown defensive performances, the honorees illustrate the rapid growth of the sport across Ohio.
Player of the Year: CC Alley Madison
CC Alley Madison, the standout quarterback from the Cleveland area, earned Player of the Year after a season that combined precision passing with clutch runs. Her 2,963 passing yards and 55 touchdowns topped the local leaderboard, while her poise under pressure helped her team secure a pivotal victory in the regional playoffs.
Coach of the Year Josh DeWeese, who guided Berkshire to the state final four, was recognized for his strategic acumen and ability to develop young talent. Under his leadership, the team posted a 10-1 record and demonstrated a depth of skill that surprised many pundits.
The offensive roll call reads like a who’s‑who of emerging stars. Addison Jones led the area with 2,963 passing yards and 55 touchdowns, while Olivia Pennington topped the state with 17 interceptions and amassed 796 yards on offense. Kelly McCandless contributed 44 catches for 848 yards and 21 touchdowns, and Emily Mechenbier anchored her squad with 12 interceptions and a scoring touch that kept opponents guessing.
Addy Matriano burst onto the scene in her rookie year, rushing for 886 yards and establishing herself as a dual-threat weapon. Tia Jackson added 1,008 total offensive yards and 18 touchdowns, and Kennedy Ross recorded 72 receptions for 765 yards and 16 total touchdowns. Gianna LaMarco threw for 1,660 yards and 46 touchdowns, while Dede Crawford powered the 10-1 Red Raiders with 15 total touchdowns and 71 flag pulls.
Defensive standouts rounded out the list, with Ivy Martin catching 64 passes for 917 yards and 17 touchdowns, Jillian Smetana emerging as the area’s top rusher with 15 flag pulls for loss and six sacks, and Ella Zampedro leading her team with 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions on defense. Their contributions underscore a balanced skill set that defines the new generation of flag football talent.
