As the 2026 college season approaches, the University of Louisville men’s soccer program is taking an unconventional approach to readiness. Rather than staying idle, a host of Cardinals are dispersing across the United States and abroad to test themselves in competitive environments.
Summer Deployments Across the Board
Head coach John Michael Hayden has made it clear that the summer schedule is about more than just minutes on the pitch; it is a deliberate strategy to sharpen tactical acumen, physical resilience and adaptability before the fall campaign begins.
The Cardinals are scattered across a spectrum of leagues, from the semi‑professional USL League Two to the National Premier Soccer League, the Midwest Premier League and even foreign circuits. While Cooper Olson dons the colors of River Light FC, Liam McClen tests his mettle with Kings Hammer FC, and Fernando Sanchez joins Miami AC, a dozen other players are similarly engaged.
Among the notable assignments, Braydon Sellers is slated for Springfield FC, Nicholas Parham for Swarm FC, Quinton Wilson for Toledo Villa FC, and Jack Lewis for Virginia Beach United. Giacomo Zizza will spend the summer with FC Motown, while Ashton Flowers is currently competing in the NPSL with FC Pride. In the Midwest Premier League, Brody Mayer and Johnny Petruso are paired with St. Louis Scott Gallagher.
Defender Hakon Edstrom offers a glimpse of international exposure, continuing his development in Norway with Asker. The varied experiences, coach Hayden argues, will translate into a more versatile and battle‑hardened squad when the Cardinals reconvene for the upcoming season.
