Cassandra “Cassie” Travers, a standout defender on the U.S. U‑16 Girls’ National Team, revealed last week that she will wear the blue and white of Duke University beginning in the 2028‑29 academic year.
Standing 5‑foot‑7, Travers has been a mainstay for the Mountain View Los Altos Soccer Club’s 10G Juventus ECNL side, where her technical ability and composure have drawn attention from several powerhouse programs.
A Recruiting Coup for the Blue Devils
In a decision that underscored the importance of academic fit as much as athletic opportunity, she narrowed her choices to Duke, the University of Southern California and the University of Texas before ultimately selecting the Blue Devils.
Beyond her club commitments, Travers will spend the upcoming year in a residency program with NJ/NY Gotham FC’s reserve side, Gotham 2, before officially joining Duke’s roster on August 13.
Her current coach, Esteban Sosa, praised the youngster’s leadership on the back line, noting that her vision and ability to read the game set her apart from many peers.
Travers will also benefit from a familiar presence at Duke: her older sister, Jocelyn, already a member of the Blue Devils’ squad, has been vocal about the supportive environment and the program’s upward trajectory.
Duke’s recent on‑field success adds another layer of excitement. Under head coach Kieran Hall, the team captured the 2025 College Cup, a milestone that appears to be reshaping recruiting narratives in the ACC.
The addition of Cassie Travers is expected to reinforce a defensive unit that has been a cornerstone of Duke’s recent achievements, and observers anticipate that her blend of size, skill and soccer IQ will translate quickly at the collegiate level.
