Cain Brackney Commits to Indiana, Shifting 2027 Linebacker Landscape

The three-star recruit flips from UCLA to the Hoosiers, bringing high-school accolades and a state championship pedigree.

Cain Brackney, a three-star linebacker from Oklahoma, announced his commitment to Indiana University on Tuesday, flipping his pledge from UCLA to the Hoosiers for the 2027 recruiting class.

Ranked No. 77 nationally among linebackers and No. 17 in the state, Brackney brings a blend of size, speed and playmaking ability that has drawn attention from coaches and analysts alike.

His high school journey began at Cherry Creek in Colorado before he moved to Union in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he posted a standout sophomore season with 57 tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks and a fumble recovery, followed by a junior year that saw him record 102 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, an interception returned for a touchdown and another forced fumble.

Now set to spend his senior year at Bixby High School, Brackney will play alongside a team that finished the 2025 campaign undefeated at 13-0 and captured the Class 6A-Division I state title.

A New Chapter for the Hoosiers

Indiana’s linebacker corps for the upcoming season already features experienced redshirt seniors Isaiah Jones, Jeff Utzinger and Kaiden Turner, as well as junior Rolijah Hardy, while three true freshmen — Jacob Savage, Ja’Dyn Williams and Henry Ohlinger — are expected to contribute.

The Hoosiers open their schedule on Sept. 5 against the University of North Texas at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, a game that could set the tone for a campaign aimed at another national championship.
