The University of Missouri announced this week that Brandon Van Horn has been appointed as the new hitting coach for Mizzou Baseball, bringing a wealth of experience from professional and collegiate baseball.
Developing Talent at the Highest Level
During his two‑year stint with the Houston Astros, Van Horn worked directly with top prospects such as Walker Janek and Xavier Neyens, helping the club’s Florida Complex League affiliate capture its first East Division title in four decades.
College Success and Minor League Growth
Before joining the Astros, Van Horn coached at New Mexico State, guiding the Aggies to a Western Athletic Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Corvallis Regional, showcasing his ability to elevate program performance.
His playing background includes being drafted by the San Francisco Giants and advancing through their system to the Triple‑A level in 2019, giving him a player‑first perspective.
A Coach Who Connects
Colleagues and players alike praise Van Horn for his knack for connecting with athletes and his relentless focus on teaching and player development, qualities he says will help the Tigers’ hitters reach new heights.
Looking Forward
Excited to join the Mizzou Baseball family, Van Horn expressed enthusiasm for contributing to the program’s continued success and for shaping the next generation of hitters in Columbia.
