A Finnish Legend Takes His Place Among the Greats
Pekka Rinne, the Nashville Predators’ all‑time leader in wins, was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame on June 22, cementing a career that spanned 15 seasons and 369 victories. The 6‑foot‑2 netminder topped the franchise’s leaderboards for saves and shutouts, and his 2017‑18 Vezina Trophy season recognized him as the league’s top goaltender.
The induction ceremony will unfold on November 9 in Toronto, where Rinne will be celebrated alongside an elite group of five players elected to the 2026 class. Among them is former NHL executive Brian Burke, who will be honored in the builder category, adding a layer of camaraderie to the event.
Rinne’s international résumé is equally impressive. He backstopped Finland to four IIHF World Championship appearances, capturing the tournament’s MVP in 2014 and contributing to a silver medal the same year. That same year he also eclipsed Kari Lehtonen to become the all‑time wins leader among Finnish‑born goalies.
Beyond the ice, the Predators organization paid tribute with an 11‑foot bronze statue unveiled at Bridgestone Arena in 2023, and earlier this year Rinne was welcomed into the team’s Golden Hall, an inaugural honor that underscored his impact on the franchise.
The Hall of Fame induction will also highlight Rinne’s status as the first Finnish goaltender to receive the honor, a milestone that follows Shea Weber as the only other Predators player enshrined. His legacy now stands as a benchmark for future Finnish net‑minders aspiring to NHL greatness.
