The University of Evansville announced the addition of Gustav Winther, a 6‑10 forward, to its men’s basketball roster for the 2026‑27 campaign. The signing marks a strategic move to bolster the team’s frontcourt with a player who has already tasted high‑level competition abroad.
Winther’s collegiate foundation was laid at Northern Illinois University, where he appeared in the 2025‑26 season and posted averages of 8.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. That experience, coupled with a year spent in Denmark’s Basket Ball Copenhagen, where he tallied 12.3 points and 5.7 rebounds, has equipped him with a blend of domestic and international exposure.
Prior to his American stint, Winther honed his craft with Holbaek‑Senhus in Denmark, contributing 9.1 points per game and pulling down 6.5 rebounds during the 2023‑24 campaign. Those statistics underscore a player who can adapt to different styles of play and who brings a disciplined work ethic to the court.
Coach David Ragland expressed enthusiasm about the new recruit, highlighting Winther’s basketball IQ and Division I pedigree.
