Desmond Bane, the former TCU standout who once lit up the college courts as a three‑point sharpshooter, is set to return to his alma mater in a new capacity.
A Legacy Reimagined
The university announced that Bane will join the TCU men’s basketball staff as the chief basketball officer, a role that will see him serve as a special advisor to head coach Jamie Dixon.
In that capacity he will mentor current players, help shape recruiting strategies and act as a liaison between the program and the NBA, drawing on his five seasons in the league.
Bane’s tenure at TCU, from 2016 to 2020, cemented his status as the program’s all‑time leader in 3‑pointers, wins and games played, earning two All‑Big 12 honors and a reputation as one of the most prolific shooters in school history.
From Memphis to Orlando
After being selected 30th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies, Bane spent five seasons with the franchise before a mid‑season trade sent him to the Orlando Magic, where he continues to showcase his shooting prowess.
In a recent statement, Bane expressed his excitement about giving back to the university that helped launch his career, saying he is honored to contribute to the development of the next generation of players.
The move is also seen as a boost for the program’s visibility, linking the university with NBA talent and reinforcing its commitment to competitive basketball.
Jamie Dixon, who has guided the Horned Frogs for over a decade, welcomed Bane’s involvement, highlighting the value of his NBA experience and deep connection to the TCU community.
