Piedmont University announced this week that John Tenerowicz will serve as its new Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach, a move that adds a blend of playing experience and defensive acumen to the program.
A Defensive Mindset Takes Shape
Tenerowicz arrives after a two‑year stint as a full‑time assistant at Tiffin University, where he helped the Dragons set a school record for conference victories and secure their first postseason berth since transitioning to Division II.
His playing years at Ohio University were marked by a 2021 MAC Tournament championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance, experiences that shaped his understanding of high‑pressure competition.
Beyond the court, he holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and a Sports Management degree from Ohio, followed by an MBA with a Sports Management specialization from Tiffin in 2024.
Looking Ahead
Expressing enthusiasm for the new role, Tenerowicz said he is eager to contribute to Coach JC Cavin’s staff and to help shape the culture of Piedmont basketball.
Coaches who have worked with him highlight his ability to refine defensive schemes and to develop players both on and off the court, traits that align with Piedmont’s recent strategic priorities.
The hiring comes as the university seeks to strengthen its men’s basketball program ahead of the upcoming season, aiming to translate its defensive identity into consistent on‑court results.
