David Frey has been appointed as the new head football coach for Northeast Lauderdale High School, succeeding longtime mentor Coach Gandy. The school board announced the hiring this week, highlighting Frey’s extensive background and his vision for the program.
A Coach With Proven Experience
Frey’s coaching journey includes stints at Scott Central and a role in Philadelphia, where he honed a disciplined approach that emphasizes winning. A native of Louisville, he brings several years of head‑coach experience and a deep understanding of the game.
Building on a Strong Foundation
In his first press conference, Frey said he wants to build on the foundation set by Coach Gandy, focusing on discipline, work ethic and a culture of victory. He will lead the Trojans as they move from the 2A classification to a more competitive 4A environment.
Preparing for the Season
To get ready for Week 1 in August, Frey will take part in the LCSD 7‑on‑7 event, using the showcase to fine‑tune his squad’s chemistry. The upcoming season promises a fresh start, with the coach eager to see his players embrace the new standards he is setting.
