Desmond Bane, the former TCU standout who once dominated the Horned Frogs' record books, has been appointed chief basketball officer for his alma mater.
In this newly created position, Bane will sit alongside head coach Jamie Dixon, offering guidance on strategy, player development and the overall direction of the men's basketball program.
A Horned Frog Legacy Reimagined
Bane's connection to TCU runs deep. He finished his college career as the program's all‑time leader in three‑point makes, victories and games played, numbers that still echo through the university's basketball hall.
His jersey was retired in a ceremony on February 18, 2025, a testament to the impact he had during his collegiate years, which included a 2017 NIT championship and a historic run to the NCAA tournament that ended a two‑decade drought for the school.
Beyond college, Bane has carved out a six‑year NBA career, first with the Memphis Grizzlies and now with the Orlando Magic, where he averaged 20.1 points and shot 39.1 percent from beyond the arc in the most recent season.
He began his professional journey as a first‑round pick in 2020, spending five seasons with the Grizzlies before signing with the Magic, a move that has kept him in the public eye and reinforced his reputation as a reliable scorer and veteran presence.
In his new advisory role, Bane will draw on that experience to help shape recruiting strategies, evaluate talent and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the program.
University officials say the appointment reflects a desire to blend the institutional knowledge of a TCU legend with the fresh perspective of a modern NBA veteran, a combination they believe will elevate the Horned Frogs' competitiveness in the Big 12 and beyond.
