A Milestone on the Gridiron
University of Texas Rio Grande Valley supporters are gearing up for a landmark contest as the Vaqueros prepare to host the University of Texas at San Antonio on September 5, marking the program’s inaugural clash with a Division I Football Bowl Subdivision opponent.
The matchup, scheduled to take place in San Antonio, Texas, will be the first time the Vaqueros step onto the field against a team from the Football Bowl Subdivision, a milestone that has generated considerable buzz among students, alumni and local fans.
How the Loyalty Point System Works
Ticket requests opened on the university’s dedicated portal, goutrgv.com/utsatickets, and will remain open until July 6, 2026. Interested supporters must submit their applications within that window, after which the Athletic Department will begin allocating seats based on a loyalty point hierarchy starting July 13, 2026.
Under the loyalty point framework, each fan’s eligibility is tied to accumulated points earned through prior attendance, donations and other engagements with the athletics department. The higher a supporter’s standing, the greater the number of tickets they may request.
The Road Ahead
The upcoming game represents more than a schedule entry; it is a test of the Vaqueros’ growing competitiveness and a chance for the fan base to showcase its passion on a larger stage. As the deadline approaches, the university encourages supporters to review the point‑based system and plan accordingly.
