Pekka Rinne, a Finnish goaltender who once skated for the Milwaukee Admirals, has been selected for the Hockey Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026, cementing his place among the sport’s legends.
Rinne’s journey began in the AHL, where he wore the Admirals’ colors from 2005 through 2008, compiling an 83‑49‑11 record with ten shutouts and helping the club reach the Calder Cup Finals in 2005‑06. The following year he was named a two‑time AHL All‑Star and, in 2013, earned the distinction of #1 Admiral of All‑Time.
Though his NHL tenure was spent entirely with the Nashville Predators, Rinne left an indelible mark, becoming the franchise’s all‑time leader in wins, shutouts and several goaltending metrics. His excellence was recognized with a Vezina Trophy and four selections to the NHL All‑Star Game.
He joins Shea Weber, another Admirals alumnus, as only the second player from the franchise to be enshrined, a testament to the organization’s ability to produce Hall‑of‑Fame talent.
Rinne’s statistical milestones place him among an exclusive group: he is one of just twelve goaltenders in NHL history with at least 350 career wins and 60 shutouts, a feat that underscores his durability and consistency.
A lasting legacy
Beyond the numbers, Rinne’s influence extends to international play, where he represented Finland with pride, and to the community that supported him throughout his career.
Patrice Bergeron, Carey Price, Keith Tkachuk and Brian Burke are among the notable figures who have praised Rinne’s contributions, highlighting his leadership and sportsmanship.
The induction ceremony, scheduled for next year, will also honor other inductees such as Cindy Curley and Keith Tkachuk, but Rinne’s story remains a centerpiece for fans of the Admirals and Predators alike.
