A Race Against Time
On June 23, 2018, the Wild Boars, a youth soccer team from northern Thailand, set out for an afternoon practice in the Tham Luang cave near Mae Sai. What began as a routine excursion quickly turned into a fight for survival when sudden monsoon rains sent water surging through the cavern, sealing the entrance.
The team consisted of twelve boys aged eleven to sixteen and their assistant coach, all of whom became trapped in a muddy ledge deep within the cave system. The rising flood cut off their escape, and the darkness grew heavier with each passing hour.
Rescuers, including members of the Thai Navy SEALs and a coalition of international cave‑diving experts, launched a massive operation that spanned days and involved painstaking searches through narrow, water‑filled passages.
