Tyson LeBlanc, a junior shortstop for the Kansas baseball program, has been recognized as a Second Team Academic All-America by College Sports Communicators, marking a historic milestone for the university.
He becomes the first Kansas player in nearly two decades to earn a spot on a CSC Academic All-America team, joining an elite group of only six alumni in school history.
A Record-Setting Season
LeBlanc’s impact transcended academics; he smashed a new single-season school record with 25 home runs, a feat that underscores his power at the plate and his role in the team’s offensive surge.
Beyond the box score, the junior maintained a 3.66 cumulative GPA in the pre-business track, satisfying the stringent eligibility standards that require a minimum 3.50 GPA for Academic All-America consideration.
His achievement also placed him among four Big 12 athletes selected to the prestigious team, highlighting the conference’s blend of athletic excellence and scholarly dedication.
The selection process itself is rigorous: candidates are vetted by a sub-committee and advance only when they demonstrate the highest combination of academic performance and athletic achievement. Ultimately, dues-paying members of College Sports Communicators — including the Academic All-America Core Committee, the Hall of Fame Committee, the Executive Board of Directors and national staff — cast the final votes.
LeBlanc’s recognition reflects not only personal accomplishment but also the growing emphasis on student-athlete development at Kansas, where athletic success continues to be paired with rigorous academic standards.
