A Dual Triumph of Skill and Scholarship
Danny MacDougall, a University of Dayton baseball graduate, has been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All‑American First Team, a distinction that highlights both his on‑field prowess and his scholarly achievements.
With a cumulative GPA of 3.83 and a Master of Business Administration in progress, MacDougall joins an exclusive club of Flyers who have earned this honor, the first since Tom Beechem’s 2004 First‑Team recognition.
His senior season was marked by record‑breaking performances: he set single‑season highs with 24 doubles and 70 runs scored, while his .384 batting average placed him among the nation’s most consistent hitters.
Defensively, he logged 98 putouts and 121 assists, and he started every one of the team’s 54 games, underscoring his durability and value to the lineup.
Beyond the box score, MacDougall entered the Flyers’ record book with 34 stolen bases and 86 hits, numbers that reflect a blend of speed, strategy, and contact hitting.
His academic record is equally impressive; he previously maintained a 3.92 cumulative GPA during his undergraduate years at Maine and Endicott, and he is now the fourth Flyer to be selected to the CSC Academic All‑American list, alongside Tom Adams, Tom Beechem and Robert Bosticco.
The 13 other members of the First Team share an average GPA of 3.84, illustrating a culture where athletic excellence and academic rigor are pursued in tandem.
The honor places MacDougall in the lineage of Dayton’s baseball greats, a program that has produced notable alumni such as former MLB pitcher Tom Glavine, and reinforces the university’s commitment to developing well‑rounded leaders.
