Christian Elliss, a linebacker for the New England Patriots, stepped onto the gymnasium floor of Mattahunt Elementary School in Boston's Mattapan district to lead a flag‑football session that blended play with mentorship.
The visit struck a personal chord for Elliss, whose father, Luther Elliss, once roamed the NFL as a defensive lineman and frequently involved his son in charitable events. Recalling those early experiences, the player said the day reminded him of the lessons learned on and off the field.
Surrounded by third‑graders, sixth‑graders and even a few teachers, Elliss called out routes, cheered each touchdown, and fielded enthusiastic questions. The children responded with a rousing ovation as he entered, and later signed shirts and handed out gift bags, one of which contained a custom Patriots‑themed bike.
A Legacy of Service
The outing was part of the Patriots Foundation’s Adopt‑A‑School initiative, which awarded a $5,000 grant to the school under the NFL Play60 health and fitness program. Elliss emphasized that football has given him a platform to give back, noting that community involvement is a core part of his identity as a Patriot.
