Washington University Bears Cruise to 7-0 Shutout in Regional Opener

Ranked No. 16/18, the Bears dominate Aurora and move forward in the winners' bracket.

The No. 16/18 Washington University baseball squad opened the Centre Regional with a commanding 7-0 victory over Aurora, securing a spot in the winners' bracket and improving their season record to 29-11.

Early Momentum

Senior Shane Pellegrino led off with a single, and sophomore Jacob Witte followed with a hit that moved Pellegrino to second. A sacrifice bunt by Kevin Stephens set the stage, and Drew Dillon’s single up the middle brought the first two runs across the plate.

Cooper Greene then delivered a sacrifice fly that plated Dillon, extending the lead to 3-0. The Bears added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth after a walk by Chance Cromer and a series of timely hits from Ryan Soong and Anthony Equale, culminating in a groundout that capped the scoring.

Pitching Dominance

Graduate pitcher Chase Brickley turned in a solid outing, throwing 128 pitches over eight innings with five strikeouts to earn the win and preserve the shutout.

The Bears now await the outcome of the Centre versus Piedmont matchup, which will determine their next opponent on Saturday, May 16 at 2:30 p.m.
