Ben’Jarvius Shumaker commits to Colorado Buffaloes, flipping Mississippi pledge

Top defensive lineman chooses CU after campus visit, as Buffaloes rebound from recent decommitments

Ben’Jarvius Shumaker, a four‑star defensive lineman from Choctaw County High School in Mississippi, is ranked as the No. 7 defensive end in the 2027 class by both 247Sports and On3. He boasts a 22‑offer sheet that includes powerhouses such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.

A pivotal recruiting shift

Originally pledged to the University of Mississippi, Shumaker reversed course after an official visit to Boulder, where he decided to commit to the Colorado Buffaloes. His decision marks a significant win for the program, which has been rebuilding its roster after a series of recent losses.

The Buffaloes’ 2027 class, now at 16 verbal commitments, suffered setbacks with the decommitments of offensive lineman Jaiden Lindsay, who chose North Carolina, and running back Steven Alexis, who opted for Illinois. Both players were among several prospects the staff had been courting.

Meanwhile, kicker Joshua McCormick is no longer on the Buffs’ roster and is exploring other avenues, including a possible return to track and field.
