The New York Islanders have named former NHL forward Pascal Dupuis as their new Director of Player Development, a move designed to accelerate the growth of a promising prospect pool.
Dupuis' Hockey pedigree and playing history
Dupuis, who spent 14 seasons in the NHL with the Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, Atlanta Thrashers and Pittsburgh Penguins, compiled 190 goals and captured two Stanley Cup titles with the Penguins. His most recent role has been with the Shawinigan Cataractes of the QMJHL, where he served in various coaching and management capacities over the past six years.
A new era of development
The Islanders' management views the current group of young players — including Matthew Schaefer, Cal Ritchie, Victor Eklund and Kashawn Aitcheson — as one of the most important collections of talent in recent years. Proper guidance from Dupuis is expected to be pivotal in translating that potential into NHL readiness.
Eric Cairns, who previously held the Director of Player Development position, is no longer part of the club's Hockey Operations, signaling a shift in the organization's approach to player development.
